You Should Always Hire An Attorney...But Maybe Not This One

I start by saying that this is an opinion/comedic article. It has no bearing on this person’s ability to practice law. It is purely for comedic effect, just like the video linked above. Maybe this lawyer just had a lousy day…or she was drunk. Either way, the video made me laugh until I got lightheaded.
I am poaching off on an old video from LawTalkWithMike, but I just watched it all the other day, and it made me cringe and die laughing. This appears to occur in Texas, and one of the parties is former professional boxer Curtis Meeks. Unfortunately, Mr. Meeks hired the wrong attorney for his contempt hearing that day. His attorney was someone called Ms. Alexia, who, right out the gate, made me cringe when she said she respected the court “immensely” after either showing up a bit late or having tech issues with the Zoom software. Trust me, when you see the video, you’ll understand why.
Fast-forward a bit to where Ms. Alexia was telling “Curtis” to invoke his Fifth Amendment right a bunch of times, or after objecting, she would just say “moving forward” like she’s running the show. The judge ended up having enough of her and held her contempt approximately four or so times. The funniest portion of the whole thing was when the judge reluctantly asked Ms. Alexia what her objection was, and Ms. Alexia responded, “All Objections.” That clip is now a hilarious staple on LawTalkWithMike, making me laugh every time. After a bit longer, Ms. Alexia just vanished from the Zoom call, ditching her client and forcing the Judge to halt the hearing as she made an official appearance for her client, Curtis Meeks.
That said, I still would hire an attorney to represent you. While Ms. Alexia’s hilarious video makes her look bad and makes Curtis Meeks represent himself in a later hearing, an attorney is more suited to represent you in court than a non-attorney….even Ms. Alexia.
Thanks for reading! I hope you check out the full video to see the hilarious hearing. I’ll be back with more SovCit content later, but I found this video too funny not to write about it.
